What type of relationship do you want with your dog? I've always wanted to communicate on a deeper level with animals, and dogs specifically. There is something extremely special when that connection is made between dog and human. Instead of 'I rescued/saved this dog,' the narrative becomes, 'this is MY dog.' The narrative often includes explanations about history, behaviors, habits, and adaptations around those behaviors.
As a trainer, I see the heartbreak dog owners experience when trying to understand and bond with their dogs and often, it's a communication problem. They don't understand what you want, and you don't understand why they can't just BE a dog.
